Wow! Loved this ep. And
I changed my mind -- I now think Illyria and Xander are a good match,
and I can't wait to see the big battle! Big Bad versus Prince of Darkness.
Gonna be sooo cool. Looking forward to the next part with bated breath.
Keep up the great work.
Merry Christmas!

How are you? I wish you
all a Merry Christmas in advance and good holidays.
I loved your last update -- the whole thing is totally cool, and
I wonder how Spike will be able to get out of Dracula's clutches.
I hope you will all have a good time for Christmas and lots of joy
and gifts. Good luck for writing the next chapter of your series,
too.

Hearts of Darkness,
Gypsies, Vamps and Thieves |
I enjoyed Gypsies, Vamps
and Thieves a lot and could tell that you were leading up to something
good for the Spike/Drac confrontation, but this is awesome! You've
created a fantastic plotline for this part of your series. Very intricate
and layered. I alway love your titles, too, by the way, and this is
another great one, with the nod to Joseph Conrad's novel and also
to Apocalypse Now, which Joss and his writers seemed to have great
interest in.
The images were stunning! As always. Just wanted to say that now,
so that I don't forget once I start writing about the story. I always
love your illustrations.
There was so much wonderful stuff in the episode that it's hard
to single out anything without going on and on. Just a few: I like
how Drac and Eliz. speak to each other, with all the endearments
that are always fake on hr part and often fake from him. She is
SO not what he was hoping for in a consort. Also noticed how you
took pains to give them more old fashioned word choices, and that
they never spoke with contractions, but always said the full "I
will" or "I do not", etc. Good touch! I figured from
the start that Drac was just stringing poor Victor along -- so I
feel a tiny bit of sympathy for him, even though he is a villain,
too. I thought your whole red demon dust story and the need to
mix it with Spike's blood is a great plotpoint. Very inventive.
Hope nobody manages to get all that power, though!
LOVED the scenes with both Dawn and Wes. I really missed the Spike/Dawn
dynamic that the show had and threw away. And I've always enjoyed
Wesley - even when he was a dork, but especially during the later
seasons of Angel, when he got more multi-dimensional and capable
and also very hot!
Got a kick out of Spike teasing him about not owning up to knowledge
of Star Wars and other pop culture stuff -- the line about Watcher
Summer Camps as a kid was funny, too.
The whole Xander fear of thrall and the tea and mantra stuff was
very good, too. I hope he manages to resist Drac this time -- but
I'll understand if he briefly falls under again. If so, please have
someone save him quickly so that he doesn't embarrass himself too
much. Poor Xander.
I was drinking coffee when Ethan Rayne's name appeared on the screen
and almost choked on it. This ought to prove interesting! I got
a big kick out of Harmony as supersecret Bond girl spy. She's so
funny. Which reminds me to mention how amazing it is that you guys
can write all of these characters so well that I can almost hear
their voices in my head when I read their dialogue. Oh, and I also
enjoyed the shapeshifter bodyguard. He's a keeper. Sometimes in
fanfic, new characters aren't all that well written or memorable,
but you guys create such good ones: Mena, Haley, Mike, Victor, etc.
Great work!
My Spuffy heart loved Buffy's e-mail sequence. How cute that not
only is she jealous of Haley, but she's also trying to be all subtle
about it. And I love that Spike is keeping her letters in his inside
duster pocket near his heart. Sigh. Hope they get together again
pretty soon. I need me some Spuffy-loving.
I'm really eager for the big confrontation between Spike and Dracula,
that I assume will be coming at some point, despite this "temporary"
truce. Spike really shouldn't have gone alone to Dracula's castle,
though. Big mistake on his part. Back-up, Spike! You always need
back-up! Dracula certainly has a ton of back-up on his side.
Great work from everyone on your staff!
Congratulations to you all! And Happy Holidays!

Hearts of Darkness |
I was so glad to find
your message in my inbox today announcing the new episode! Not only
did it give me something to do while everyone else was watching football,
but I've also been craving the next part of the story, eager to find
out what Drac has up his sleeves for Spike. And wow! You thought up
something really fantastic! Just finished reading both pages of Part
1, and I think I'll read it again tomorrow, when I should have some
more time. It was just so bloody great!
I'll have to get back with my family soon, so I don't have time
to mention everything I liked. Actually, I liked it all! LOVED that
you gave Dawn & Spike that sweet scene together. I've been wanting
that to happen, even though you gave them a few moments in one or
two earlier episodes. They deserved to have this scene. And LOVED
that we finally got to see Wes. I actually shrieked out loud when
I read his name. So even though I was enjoying Buffy's e-mail, with
her jealousy about Haley (due to the message she got from Xander,
right?), and the fact that Spike keeps her messages in his duster
pocket and re-reads them over and over, I still wasn't upset when
Spike got interrupted in the bar, because it was by Wes! Yay! I
was hoping you'd find a way to work in a visit with him, since everyone
else has had a chance to see Spike. And you write him just as well
as you write all of the characters -- your writers are really wonderful
that way. All of the characters are believable and true to themselves,
even the ones that are finally getting the chance to learn from
all their past mistakes and become better people.
And you've created another new cool character -- I love the shapeshifting
bodyguard! He's very funny. All of your original characters are
great. I like Mike a lot and was glad to see him in the story again.
The Hungarians were all good, too, even though they had to be left
behind. Victor and Elizabeth are great new villains -- that's quite
an unholy trio you've got for Spike and the Big B.A.D.S. (love the
name! and laughed a lot during that name-choosing scene!) to have
to go up against, along with their vamp army.
And I gasped when it turned out that Sirk was meeting with Ethan
Rayne!!! Should have seen that one coming, shouldn't I? That whole
section with Harmony was very funny. You write her really well,
too. I could hear her voice in my head, saying those lines and with
her enjoying the superspy work and thinking that she'd be a great
Bond girl.
Loved all of the new illustrations, too! You've got great graphic
artists working with you. Drac & Spike riding in the carriage
together was cool, and I totally cracked up at the chanting Xander
in a teacup. I hope that Mena's grandmother's tea & mantra work
for poor Xander. It would mean a lot to him if he could manage to
not be a butt-monkey again, but I know that Spike would never kill
him if that happened, despite his begging for it. Spike would just
tie him up or something till they got him away from Drac, right?
Oh, and since I love Wes, I really, really loved that beautiful
image of him with Spike in the bar.All the images of Drac &
Elizabeth were great, too, especially that lovely one with their
foreheads touching, when they had that brief moment without fighting.
That Eliz. is sure a mean bitca! And that image with the merged
Spike & Dracula faces to promote Part 2 and their eventual face-off
was very cool.
Spike should so not have gone to the castle without his team, but
that's Spike, for you. Despite all the character development for
him this season, he's still capable of making bonehead moves now
and then. Of course, that's where all the drama and excitement comes
in! LOL
Can't quite express how much your series means to me. You wouldn't
believe me even if I was able to express it well enough. I miss
the TV show so very much, and it's almost like you guys have brought
it back to me. Maybe this is actually better than having the show
on the air, because you guys treat Spike the way he should be treated
-- with
respect and with love. Thank you!
Waiting eagerly for more!

Hearts of Darkness |
Terrific! Freaking fantastic! As you know, I enjoy all of your
episodes, but this one was really spectacular! I'm dying to find
out how all of this gets resolved.
I sure wasn't disappointed. You're doing really well with setting
up the big Spike vs. Dracula fight that must be coming. I liked
your invention of the red demon dust power drink once it's mixed
with the blood of a vampire with a soul and drunk from the golden
goblet. Those wizards and druids thought they had a foolproof curse,
but they didn't know there'd ever be a Fool For Love vampire like
Spike who would fight
to get his soul back. Very worthy plotline that you crafted so slowly
and so well, with Victor bringing back the scrolls, resurrecting
the ruthless Elizabeth, the artifact being the goblet that the power
drink must be drunk from -- all of it tying into Spike and just
really well planned and written. And making us wait during both
of the Hungary episodes for the eventual meeting of Spike and Drac.
Got a kick out of the mention of the debt Drac owes Spike and the
"special dirt", too. You always do a good job of working
in little bits from the TV shows into your series. Good work!
Nice to see Wes and Dawn in this episode; their scenes were great.
Liked the new shapeshifting bodyguard, too. Enjoyed Harmony returning
into the mix as a spy, and as soon as Mike started relating his
recruitment of Harmony, that mention she made to Spike about wanting
to be a good guy again came right back to me. Good use of an earlier
episode scene coming back into play at a perfect moment. Rooting
for Xander to resist Dracula's thrall. And can hardly wait for Spike
to kick Drac's bloody arse!
Oh, and Ethan Rayne -- very cool to see him pop up just as the
big offering thing is coming up! He always was into magic and loves
causing chaos, too. I'll bet he'll have an interesting part to play
in whatever W & H's scheme is. Ethan seems right at home at
W & H; he'd be a perfect client or maybe even an employee for
them.
Okay, at the risk of sounding like a mushy guy who might actually
like "chick flicks", I wasn't surprised to find that Spike
carries around Buffy's e-mails in his coat pocket. I'll bet he's
still got that letter she hand-delivered to him in that episode
when they were together. You know, with the list of the Top Ten
reasons they should be together. He probably got that one laminated.
LOL
I should also say how cool your illustrations were and always are.
They're a real asset to your story.
Thanks for continuing to write this series, even if you have to
go slow with it. It's really worth writing and sharing with us fans
who miss watching the shows.

It's been a long time
coming but worth the wait!
So many good things about this installment. Loved seeing Ron Perlman's
pic as "the Beast". One of my favorite all-time shows.
The discussion on the team name really had me laughing out loud.
Those suggestions were hysterical! Well done on references to the
past, too.
Victor will definitely try to betray, so the question will be
if he gets the opportunity before someone makes him dead. Elizabeth
is a definite problem, being more power hungry than most any out
there. I don't think
she and Spike are going to like each other at all. I do think he'll
remember her from history. Going to the castle alone was not the
wisest idea, even if he can handle Drac in a fight. Spike could
easily be out-numbered, not to mention the possibility of magic
badness.
Nice to see Mike included again. His scene of dealing with Harmony
was perfect. She is easily manipulated, but also picks up things.
I'm guessing the scroll is the Shanshu Prophecy. Sirk working with
Ethan does not put me at ease. Ethan is truly creative at the evil
he works, though he's a coward in the long run. As long as Mike
mentions the "niece" part of Harmony's message, the Big
B.A.D.S. will know who's involved now. [Producer's Note: Really?
I thought "Sirk met with creepy English guy with a niece"
was vague and ditzy enough Harm-speak that Mike wouldn't pick up
on it or even relate it to Spike in her exact words. That's if he
even tells Spike that Harmony is spying for them. :-) We'll have
to wait and see.] Either W & H knows Spike's duster is an
artifact, or they're planning to have him on their side for their
apocalypse, which Lilah had said was yet to come. He's the only
candidate for the Prophecy, since Angel's still dead.
Very surprised, but very pleased to see Wes again. I think his
character achieved more growth, or almost more, than any other in
the 'verse. [Producer's Note: Yep! I agree. Wes grew more than
anyone but Spike. I love Wes and wanted to make sure we included
him in some way this season.] He's been one of my favorites
for a long time. I'm sure that visit will cheer Spike up for a while.
Spike carrying the e-mail around with him is a sweet touch, too.
I can really see him doing that, keeping all of Buffy's letters
close to him.
Illyria is growing nicely. The others are feeling more comfortable,
too. You guys have really made sure to keep the realistic touch
of having the characters flow along like in reality, that relationships
keep changing
with time and experience. Nobody's been stuck in the same set of
reactions. Poor Xander. I think he'll fare better this time with
Dracula.
The Spike/Dawn interaction was great, too. They've settled the
past, and are now both perfectly clear on how the other is perceived.
It was a shame that their relationship wasn't recovered in Season
7. Dawn showed some definite maturity in "Potential",
but was kept to being a brat most of the rest of the time, and I
think that time should have been mostly past for her. I much prefer
fanfic that plays up the good points she
possessed.
The Old One dust worries me. It will be too easy to get a bit
of Spike's blood and mix it in. I can't wait for Part 2. You guys
are real troopers for working as fast as you can with all the other
RL stuff to deal with. [Producer's Note: Thanks. We hope all
of our readers will be this understanding about how slowly our episodes
are being produced now. Just can't do it any faster. Sorry.]

I'm so glad to see an update! But too many questions that need
answering. I'll try to be patient. I'm anxious to see what W &
H needs Spike for and what this "inner wolf" thing really
means. I'm still hazy on that. But so nice to see Wesley again.
Go ahead and take your time with Part 2; have a wonderful holiday
instead. You guys deserve the R & R for all the work you put
into this saga.
I was definitely surprised at Ethan Rayne's involvement, though
I shouldn't have been since his niece is integral to the story.
The showdown between those two should be interesting. And Harmony
is a nice touch.
I am enjoying the character of Mike. He's a great original character
and one I feel deeply for. Anyone with a family on the line gets
me. I also like the way Xander is portrayed. He seems totally in
character, and his relationship with Spike is believable.
I love all Spuffy moments, so the latest e-mail from Buffy was
nice. I feel like it will be Spike's love for Buffy that will help
him to overcome whatever is awaiting him.
I'd love to give more specifics to the writers, but I find the
work such a cohesive whole that not many things really stand out.
They are all doing a terrific job. And the graphic artists are the
best. I look forward to all the illustrations. Xander in a teacup
was especially well done. I also liked the Two Spikes and the Wesley
shot.

Gypsies, Vamps & Thieves Part
2 |
Strong start in portion on Page 1: Thought it a little too coincidental
that both the scroll Drac was looking for and the info. on his goblet
were in the same place, though. Loved Xander's continued nervousness
about meeting with his former Master. Also loved Spike's nervousness
on the Hellmouth. Could see both those happening. Can I just say
how hard I was laughing at Illy's "Dracula will not use my
man!" Good scene on the balcony, as well, with our favorite
Demon-Magnet. Really want to know what Willow has to say on Xander's
latest "possible" love-interest...
Page 2: Loved the pic with Pike's friend from the original Buffy
movie (can't remember his name). [Producer's Note: David Arquette
played the role of Pike's (Luke Perry's) friend who became a vampire,
but I can't remember his character's name.] Interesting fight &
liked Mike's excuse to the Dragon Lady. Only part that didn't seem
to jive for me was Illyria's very drastic change of faces - from
being fairly cold about everyone dying and her plans for domination
and finding a new way to keep her power (though granted, she hadn't
quite figured out the logistics of it), to being so easily swayed
to give them up again. Poor Illy. Hopefully, she'll still be able
to talk with the green. Very curious about what Drac's plans are
now. Will happily await the next installment.
As always thank you all for your efforts to bring a little Spike
to our otherwise Spike-less lives (though we can have fun with Brainiac
- and isn't it funny that Smallville is having a vampire episode
when James is guest starring???).

Hi there,
I just recently found your site and have started reading the Soul
Survivor series which I am enjoying very much. Your style of writing
complements the format in which the TV shows were done. It's like
the
Buffyverse continues on for a while longer, which means a lot to me.
Do keep up the good work! Thanks again. |

The Meannness of the World |
Separating the team
worked here really well, so kudos! What is with Spike's hair loss?
Did I forget something? Kinda sweet that he started smoking; what
with the guilt and all (not that I like smokers,
it was just written well.) The homage to BtVS/Ats for watching TV
and actually getting along was sweet. And can we say SHORT ATTENTION
SPAN? Spike into Springsteen for a whole 3 weeks! *lol*! And Dru thinking
he's lost his marbles was kick ass! Nice mention of "Becoming
pt2" with the "she plays triangles" bit -- another
LMAO! And you guys mentioned "CBGBs"!!! Yea, the Ramones,
Buzzcocks, The New York Dolls - you guys know your shit, man!!! (And
I did love the Spike/Dru fucking against the chain-link fence with
Debra Harry fantasies!) And at least Springsteen wasn't as bad as
Manilow. *lol* [when was that song written, the one with "meanness
in this world"? - just curious]. And the mention of Charlie Starkweather
was quite the coincidence!!! (I just saw a movie about him and looked
him up in my crime encyclopedia; quite the interesting fellow; can
see why you choose him!)
Haley still sounds so much like Ethan! [strange aside: where does
the term "moon-eyes" come from?] Haley really is great
playing off of Xander, but some of their half of the story seemed
rushed (in a good
way, though!) The off-handed mention of the Chumash made me almost
choke; soo damn cute! I'm hoping that Xander getting terribly pudgy
isn't in the cards, guess I'll have to see. But cute mention of
Xander comparing himself to Willow; reminded me of "you know
my resolve face; you know what it means"--awww! I was wondering
if Xander might be getting old or superstitious; but it seems to
me he's just getting paranoid *lol*. Is he really drinking that
much? It seems it's gotten more prevalent as the episodes go. I
found myself missing Sea.1-3 Giles very much, just by reading Xander
-- thanks! I found it odd that Haley would be able to 'feel the
power' of the bag, unless she's been into her uncle's magics?? [&
nbsp -- Did any of you watch "Into the West"? And you
really knew what you were talking about with "Red Cloud".]
I couldn't have been happier about Haley being wrong; nice smackdown
to her 'better Watcher than thou' attitude!
I really loved Nigel and Holly, and it was very crushing in the
end. Definitely the better 1/2 of the story; but it also definitely
needed that break once in a while. I love that you remembered Sea.4
with Spike's line about his cousin who has better luck/taste than
Buffy in the love department! I was LMAO when Spike is reminiscing
about his "Hellmouth days"; what a hoot those two make.
And saying Will's dad
would have been proud, just broke my heart! And comparing sex with
the Slayer to a Bertolucci film was priceless! Also, "My cuz
is a Bright Eyes fan." [what does that mean?] The fact that
Nigel helped
Holly so much was sweet (while still making me gag, as I can stand
anything but vomit! *lol*) And the explanation of the Frivolix Demons
was well done; made great sense with inthe story. The bridge in
the two stories where Spike gets a message from 'the team' was so
hilarious, with Haley complaining in the background. He better keep
that message as 'making-fun of fodder' for times to come! Spike
on the farm: hmmm, well the 'defanged' barb was good, but I couldn't
help but see Slash in the cow milking (and "I'm used to 'em
being smaller", aww poor Angel *lol*) and it just goes on with
that riveting
self-reflecting/doubting/deprecating speech of letting him down
and never going to be with anyone...[tears] [also, big tears at
him not wanting Hope or Possibility with Buffy...My poor sad Vampyre!
It's a good thing he has an active dream life -- want more!] The
first killing that Holly does was really well written. The alliteration
was amazing with the game and the slow arduous death melded together!!!
Okay, the Spike and Holly battle: and I quote "Spike thrust
his face closer, until they were nearly nose to nose. "This
is MY world, Nigel! MINE! It's not pretty, is it? Heroism never
is. That thing is killing innocent people! Families. Children! You
don't know me anymore. This is who I am. What I am." &
nbsp; "Sometimes I have to dash dreams and bring heartache
to save lives." [May I say, Fuck Yeah!! I really wish you all
had the writing gig for a Spike movie; you truly understand him
as a lead character!!!] And the way he understands he needs to let
his Demon out to do good -- I always thought Angel was way too guarded
to really get that -- and Spike understands the Detachment that
was needed!! [BTW, a little blood lust is nice to have every once
in a while] The part about how feeling the pain lets you know you're
alive is soo true, and it reminded me of that last Johnny Cash song
"I hurt
myself today..."? And you win, hands down, on the 'you know
it's not funny, but ya gotta laugh' category for the "This
is your worst visit ever!" line! And I had to cry again with
the "Emptying his pain. Emptying his soul." Damn, you
guys are so with the melancholy...and it's beautiful. I think Spike
has every right to hate TPTB; after all he's been through, they
need to bugger off! I'm also thinking that Spike has a curse of
his own; not like Angel's, of course, but that he will always be
fighting the fight and understanding the pain, and the how, but
never the why. [Sorry, it probably doesn't make any sense.]
Epilogue - Lots of whimpering and 'aww's, for Spike drowning his
sorrows, and Xander actually caring!!! There was one part I didn't
quite get...when Xander said "Don't be late. And, man, if you
didn't
have a soul, I'd...Don't be late." Now, it seems more like
a vague "Don't make me worry about you, 'cause I don't want
to admit you're good", but when I first read it IN the story
it sounded like he was
seriously pissed about...what, I don't know.
Your faithful, to the end, reader;
Lizz

I've finished reading Split Decisions and Gypsies, Vamps, and Thieves.
I loved both episodes. You guys are doing a fantastic job with this
series. Here a some things I especially liked from these episodes.
Spilt Decisions: I love the mentions of Harry Potter in this episode.
I can so see Spike reading the books. He was right. They are great
books! ;-)
I was with Mena on picturing Red wearing the pendant around his
neck. The scene with Xander and Mena chasing Bubbles around was
hysterical. Where did you guys come up with the idea of a pink poodle?
The animated version of Bubbles Great Escape was cute.
I liked how you brought Illyria into the story and was also glad
to see Clem and Cordy again. The Six Flags scene was also a favorite.
I would like to see Spike in his cut-offs! ;-)
I'm very curious to know about Spike's Duster, too.
Gypsies, Vamps and Thieves: I'm glad Mena was okay after all. This
whole episode was very exciting. I love the whole Dracula story.
Xander swearing he would never be Drac's butt-monkey again had me
laughing. I loved that Buffy episode.
Haley needs to keep away from Spike. He belongs to Buffy only. Buffy
needs to hurry up and meet back up with them. The whole thing with
Elizabeth was very creepy. I can't wait to seewhat is up with that.

Don't have much time
to write, but wanted to at least let you know how much I am continuing
to enjoy your series. Every single epsiode has moments of greatness
and overall, it's just so damn much fun! What you're writing for Xander
and Illyria is lots of fun to read and is bringing out the best of
both of them. I'm glad Blue got the chance to use all of her powers
before she gave them up again. Even though I knew she'd use the time
travel power to save them all, it didn't take away from the excitement
of reading it happen. I'm very interested in seeing the face-off between
Spike and Drac which is surely coming.
Keep writing and I'll keep reading, even if I manage to send feedback
only every now and then. Thanks so much for writing this series
and giving us all of those great illustrations, too!

Wow! Loving this new ep.
The relationship between Spike and Xander is great -- nice to see
them moving on from the past. But the only problem I have is the fact
that Illyria and Xander seem to be coming together, and to me, this
is too much like the Xander demon magnet thing on Buffy [the TV show].
But I am enjoying the series, though. Keep up the good work! |

Just read Gypsies, Vamps
and Thieves and have to say that it was fantastic! I loved both Parts
1 & 2, although I'm glad I waited to read both parts at once.
I didn't have any trouble keeping track of who each of the new Hungarian
characters were, and even though I realize that they were needed only
for this one episode, I'd be interested in seeing them involved in
another episode someday and getting to know them better. I enjoyed
them and their city very much. Budapest sounds so lovely. I've never
been to Europe at all, unfortunately for me, so I have to rely on
books, TV shows, and movies to show me that part of the world. I really
have enjoyed your series, following the characters as they travel
all over the U.S., and learning bits and pieces about various cities
here in our country, too. Maybe next season, you could take them on
more adventures to various parts of the world. I think that'd be great!
The settings you have used so far have really added to the excitement
of your stories.
Now back to this one, up until Split Decision, I had been anticipating
that you were going to build an eventual Xander/Haley relationship
out of their animosity. You tricked me, and I fell for the obvious.
And at first, I couldn't get myself to believe anything could ever
come of Xander and Illyria, but now you've managed to hook me into
the idea. Even if they don't end up together on a long-term basis,
it will be interesting to see them grow as individuals while they
explore their feelings. And maybe it will help Xander squelch the
last residue of distrust for others not like himself (demons vs.
humans as a metaphor,
of course), so that he can be a better man.
I hadn't seen the Spike/Haley attraction coming, but now I remember
that you had hinted at it right from when they first met and dropped
occasional other hints along the way, so it's just my own obtuseness
that I ended up being surprised. It does seem rather natural that
their British heritage would foster some commonalities and make
it easy for them to be friendly. But since I'm a true believer in
Spuffy, I'm glad
that you had Spike and Haley talk things out so that the mutual
attraction will not be allowed to build within them. Like a couple
of your other readers have said in their feedback, I could really
get
behind a Giles/Haley ship. You said she was 30, right? That's only
a bit young for Giles; not terribly so, and they do have lots in
common. If you're taking a poll on reader reaction, that's my vote.
Aside from the relationship stuff, the action of this last episode
was really top notch, too. Elizabeth Bathory was a smart idea! I
can't wait to find out what Dracula and she will do together and
especially what he has in mind for Spike. The confrontation between
Spike and Dracula could be really fun and exciting. I'm very eager
to see what you guys do with it. I got a kick out of Spike calling
him Count Ponce-alot!
And as always, I love the images. They have become such an enriching
part of reading your series. Congratulations to your writers, betas
and graphics people -- they all make a wonderfully creative team.
You're all bloody great!

Loved the visual descriptions
of Budapest. Really brought it to life. Definitely enjoying "Illy's"
slow transformation to acceptance of humanity - though quite impressed
that she actually seemed more interested (or maybe affected is the
better word), by the animals in the park. Only part that for some
reason didn't seem to work for me (which is strange, because I usually
love jabs at actors' other
characters) was The Mummy reference - or more just the way, for some
reason, it seemed forced to me. Can't wait to see if Victor meets
up with the gypsy lady since I did recognize her from Warlock [a film
starring Julian Sands] - though not sure I really want to see her
eyes being ripped out again. Hope there's more Drac in Part 2.
Again, the best part of having to have had to take a break from
reading the series is that I can go straight to the next chapter
now.
Thanks again for all your hard work.

I enjoy Xander having
his hands full with Illyria.
Spike and Illyria -- what an awesome team! The blue box containing
her powers seems to be intriguing; someone could be up to no good
with that one.
Looking forward to the next installment because I think Elizabeth
will beat Spike to kicking Dracula's butt.
As usual, your high standards have been met. Enjoying each chapter
more and more. So can't wait for next installment
Thank You so much for the great writing. I greatly appreciate
you takingthe time to keep me entertained.

Okay, way behind in the
reading and reviewing. But, hey -- gives me more to look forward to.
This was amazing! Loved Illy's entrance. And can't tell you how hard
I had to hold back the laughter at Miss Spike (being as I'm at work).
I think this was my favorite so far. Course, totally looking forward
to Drac, so think I'm going to start on that now.
As always, thanks so much for your wonderful tales.

I've just spent the better
part of the last two days reading this epic (called off work today
to finish it!) and had to write to tell you how much I've enjoyed
it. I love the inclusion of old characters and new,
the premise, the lovely B/S reconciliation and the careful storycrafting.
The characterizations are spot-on, and the globetrotting adventures
at turns amusing, heartbreaking (Nebraska - OUCH), and downright fun!
I cannot WAIT for the next episode! I'd love it if someone could alert
me when the update occurs...gotta check out the site for something
like that. |

Finally catching up on
the new episodes. Meanness has been a wonderful episode. I love the
whole Xander and Spike "friends" thing at the end. Glad
those two have put their differences aside.
Spike having to kill his cousin and his wife was sad.
Haley and Mena grabbing Xander and running from the museum was very
funny. Can't wait to see what is in store in the next part.
GREAT JOB! |

Obviously, the writers
have started "sweeps" action-packed episodes. This one features
a Battle at the Hellmouth, dimension-hopping, time-travel and a great
guest-star -- Dracula, who plans to use Spike in
his plans... I like the multi-layered story, beautiful art, and interesting
character development.
Illyria's presence energizes the plot. Her decision to "upgrade"
Spike from pet to prefect is funny, and her line "I assure you
that I no longer consider you my pet, although I do not understand
why the term
upsets you since you use it so frequently yourself" is priceless.
Poor Illy! It's so hard for her to understand this pesky souled vampire!
And her bonding with Xander is nice.
The episode ends on a cliff-hanger. Clever move! I'm intrigued
about Dracula's plans re: Spike.

Words cannot express
how much I love this series. There's some serious talent and time
involved in this, from the plots, to the locations, and the illustrations.
I learn so much about different places in the world
from this series. And the characters, both new and original, are very
well written. If you haven't started on this series, you are missing
a lot.

Just thought I'd say that the last chapters were up to their usual
high standard. Good enough to keep me reading till 1:00am! It always
keeps me wondering what will happen next. This series goes from

I LOVE SPIKE: SOUL SURVIVOR! That is all I can say. It is great
-- the writers work hard, and the illustrators work hard. Imagine
trying to put all that out while working with other people on it!
WHEW! Not me! Keep it up, guys, you rock! All the fans of the shows
should keep reading this series. It keeps the stories alive, and
it gives everyone a place to go -- where we'd watch the show before,
only we can't anymore. (Except for watching the DVD's a hundred
million times).

Second part with the
fight was wonderful. Absolutely gripping - with the time travel twist
really used well. A terrific episode - my main criticism is that sometimes
the exposition and the conversations can be
a bit long-winded. The revival of the countess was an anticlimax,
went on too long.
Rather a lot of extra characters - I had difficulty remembering
who was who - especially when I was reading the second part because
it was a long time since I had read the first part. [Producer's
Note: Sorry you got confused. We tried to make it clear which Hungarian
was the Watcher or the Shaman or the Slayer by the things they said,
and the way they said them. And Victor was always in the Archives
&/or on the phone with Drac, so we thought he was recognizable.
But you're right that there were two weeks and two days between
the time we posted Part 1 & Part 2. It's just so hard to find
enough free time to get this thing produced as quickly as we'd like.
Sigh.]
The Haley/Spike flirtation - hum, liked Spike thinking it could
not possibly be a date - but I found his attraction to her unlikely.
[Producer's Note: We realize this worked better for some readers
than it did for others. We had Xander make the points in his e-mail
to Buffy that Spike & Haley were getting close due to their
British "things-in-common" and enjoying each other's company
even before they took that night's walk together. Don't forget that
there are a lot of hours where we don't see what's happening with
the characters, during which they're talking and joking and hanging
out. Haley is attractive and smart. Spike is a flirty guy who hasn't
seen his love for a while, so we think, like most men, he'd be at
least a little bit attracted to a lovely woman who wanted him.]
But an enjoyable read!

Part II was a fine ending,
resolving just enough from Part I to satisfy yet keep us readers looking
forward to the next episode. I was glad to see Illyria using her time-traveling
powers. It would have seemed sad that she regained the powers and
never got to use them. Just as well it was painful, though. Less temptation
for her.
I enjoyed the tie in to Spike's past when he was The First's prisoner.
It makes this series seem more organically grown, so to speak, when
it is shown to have evolved from canon.
As always, the episode was artfully woven together so that the
efforts of the various writers were put together so that seams were
smooth. I know it's always hard for a writer to give up that bit
of
individuality, and it takes a fine hand to blend the different styles.
One of the reasons this series has endured so well, is that it has
both the various writers willing to write as a team and also that
fine hand
of leadership that knows how to "smudge" things just enough
to make it all one whole, organic piece of work.

Your series is consistently
great! I always read the episodes soon after finding they're available.
Although I'm sorry that you haven't been able to keep posting them
more quickly, so that I can greedily enjoy them more often, I can
certainly understand that it must be due to all the work you put into
it. This series is of great value to me because I so very much miss
the TV shows. And you guys provide me with the next best thing. Seriously.
Your stories are smart and funny and very entertaining. They often
have depth, too, in the exploration of the human spirit and human
frailties and human interaction. I
have also loved all the different settings and think it was a truly
inspired idea to create an on-the-road series of adventures.
I've enjoyed all of the recent episodes. The most recent one before
Hungary, the Houston Episode, was especially wonderful with all of
its humor and action. I also loved that you referenced a favorite
book of mine -- The Little Prince -- and in such a profound and fitting
way. Spike, Xander, Mena and Haley really are taming Illyria, "the
fox" with the wisdom and kindness of the relationship in that
book. It makes me want to read the book again, and I love that you
quoted my own favorite line: "It is only with the heart that
one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye."
I really believe that!
I also like that although you have excitement in your stories and
give us readers the occasional moments of worry, that we don't have
long-term angst to deal with, because there is too much of that in
the real world. And I am really enjoying how you've been developing
the characters -- especially Spike. It's so good to see him step up
to be the hero of this series, the way that we always knew that he
could.
Now, specifically about your current story. Since I'm not really much
of a WIP person, I decided to wait to read it after you had Part 2
up as well. It doesn't bother me that you've decided to post the remaining
episodes of your season in two parts, but I will probably read them
after both parts are done. I'm not much into cliffhangers. Of course,
I realize that your whole series is a huge WIP, but that I can make
myself handle.
I really liked the whole Hungary storyline and enjoyed the Hungarian
characters, although I would like to have gotten to know them even
better. Maybe we could see them again sometime later on? Or next season,
perhaps? [Producer's Note: Maybe. :-) You never know.]
I thought you handled the flirtation between Spike and Haley very
well. It was believable, fun, and also made me care more about Haley,
because we got to see her being vulnerable. I'm glad that we are getting
to know her better. I hope that someday she gets her own guy -- Hey!
How about Giles? [Producer's Note: You're not the first to suggest
that, Kay. Perhaps in Season 2?]
As for Xander and Illyria, I wasn't sure if I could buy this beyond
the humor of it in the Houston episode, but you are beginning to make
a believer of me. If you continue to develop it very slowly, rather
than making them jump in the sack right away, I think you'll hook
me into it. I was touched by them in this episode. I really did like
the way you used the aspect of Xander that the TV writers touched
upon -- that he can deliver a heartfelt message when it's really needed.
For example, his speech to talk Willow down from her Dark Willow stage;
his speech to Dawn about not having a special, superhuman ability;
and his speech to the Potentials when they were all dissing Buffy.
Glad to see you use his "gift" to get through to Illy --
and may I say that Illyria reaching a point where she will accept
a nickname from her friends was a good step in her development in
learning human behavior. Good on you!
I also like how you used Illyria's power to alter time during the
big fight sequence before having to give up that very power. Nice
touch. It wasn't a big shock, of course, because it was easy for us
to expect her to use it, but the way you wrote it was nicely done.
And I'm very anxious to find out not only what Dracula wants from
Spike, but also more about how you'll use Elizabeth Bathory. I vaguely
remembered her background, and it's likely that other readers have
never even heard of her, so it was smart of you to give her history
in that final scene when Victor was resurrecting her. She could become
quite an exciting character during your next story.
Lastly, your images continue to enhance the story so much.It really
helps me pretend that I'm watching the Spike series on TV, and you
do a great job with your casting, too! So here's a shout-out to the
folks who do your images! Well done!
Although I don't have a good track record, I'll try to talk myself
into giving feedback more often. But if it
helps to know, I really, really do love your series! |

I got really worried there
when things went belly up, but knew that Spike would ask Illyria to
turn back time.
Ah, Xander the demon magnet. Now that he's grown past the prejudices
he once held, he can be a good companion for Illyria. He's very good
at reaching the heart, as evidenced by his speech to Willow when she
tried to end the world.
Very curious about what Dracula wants Spike for. Is he really that
naive that he thinks Spike will just join in? Granted, I don't think
Drac knows about Spike's relationship with Buffy, or how he got his
soul, so maybe he's just overestimating what he can work with. Soulless
Spike didn't like him, and a re-soulless Spike still wouldn't join
up. He loves Buffy too much.
Do I think Drac will reward Victor? Nah, he's a tease. He'll probably
get rid of Victor once he's no longer useful. Drac doesn't like to
have other vamps around, unless it's his bride.
Blood on a Hellmouth is very, very bad!! I was yelling at Sarolt to
move away!
Looking forward to the next one, as always. Um, I have no clue what
to name Spike's team. That one's not so easy. |

I like the decision to
split the episodes in half. It is often difficult to find time to
read completely through a longer episode.
I've always thought that Spike was a very physical person, and
that as much as he loved Buffy, he would be attracted to other women.
I also think he is loyal enough, and honorable enough that he would
not act on it as long as they were together. Therefore, I find the
interaction here between Spike and Haley as being quite probable.
The only question would be why it took so long!
This was a nice look into Haley's personality. I think she has
been the least explored of the characters, and she seemed much more
likable in this episode. What woman wouldn't be drawn to Spike?
We can all understand how she would feel.
Xander was right in character. He's falling back on some of his
old habits again - feeling he has to look out for Buffy's interests
and not trusting the people around him. I suspect we'll see problems
occurring
because of that.
Illyria's attitude was interesting. The gypsy fortune-teller was
an inspired idea. Perhaps this will help Illyria accept that she
has to give up her power, and her revelations, as she watched the
people around
her, may help her realize she has other things to look forward to.
I'm looking forward to seeing where you go with her.
This episode was well-written as always. The whole was brought
nicely into sync, so that it did not jar as you moved from writer
to writer, yet it was obvious that the creative juices of all involved
were
flowing. This is one of the best episodes I've read yet, and I'm
eager to see what happens in Part II.

I like how you are developing Illyria and Xander. Xander has always
seemed to know what to say at the crisis moments. No surprise there.
And although he worries about how he will be around Dracula, I have
faith in him.

Another epic chapter,

I was so glad to see
the update today. I was just thinking last night
about asking when it would be.
I can't wait for the next part. It's quite a tale being woven
here. I
laughed quite a lot.
If Xander is worried [about Spike & Haley], he should just
talk to Spike in private. They've been through enough by now that
Spike won't just blow him off. On the contrary, he'd probably be
interested in how it has looked to Xan and Mena so he can adjust
accordingly.
The "she" that Drac wants - hmmm, well, it would be funny
if it was Anya, but her remains aren't easily accessible. So, if
there's an actual body around, it has to be someone he's been fascinated
with. He did have an obsession with finding Buffy, after all, though
he might have had more luck with Faith (lol).
I hope Spike takes Haley's encouragement to heart. It will be
easier to deal with his demon if he isn't feeling so insecure.
Keep up the good work,

Wow! That was great.
You guys just get better and better. I loved the part with Miss Spike
and Xander trying to decide who made the best woman -- to show Illyria
how to show her woman side. And their trip to the park and all 4 of
them enjoying the rides and swim. Trying to teach Illyria human emotion.
It was witty, funny, and so hilarious. And when Spike and Illyria
had to merge by Spike taking her blood to defeat Hyllus, and who came
up with that name Spillyria? Priceless!!! And Mena having to recover
after her fight with Hyllus. And last, but not least, Illyria having
to use the stone to crush and destroy Hyllus. You guys out-did yourselves,
that's for sure. And the pictures were good also.
I look forward to reading your next installment Gypsies, Vamps
and Thieves.
Hugs & love you all

Noticing that a new episode is online made me realize that I never
sent you any feedback for Split Decision, which I really,
really liked. I actually like all of your episodes, even though
I don't always send feedback. My bad. Anyway, I'm prohibiting myself
from reading the new one until I send feedback for the last, and
since I really want to read Gypsies, Vamps and Thieves, here
we go!
Split Decision was terrific! I very much enjoyed all the
humor -- laughed out loud very often, in fact -- and then was blown
away by all the excitement and horror that came along with Hyllus.
Excellent job! Just like the best of the episodes on the TV shows,
this one of yours was a great mix of laughs and thrills. And you
kept me on the edge of my seat at how difficult it was to kill Hyllus.
I liked that Xander stepped up to save Spike and Illyria by driving
the SUV into Hyllus -- a nice homage to him using the wrecking ball
on Glory, by the way -- and then, you had Hyllus get up one more
time and almost win, causing Illyria to absorb the power of the
gem. Now I'm very worried about her, which is why I'm so anxious
to read the next episode. I was very glad that you finally brought
her so fantastically well back into your storyline with this great
episode, but now you've got me worried that she's a walking Timebomb
again!
Like I said, I was very happy with all that you did with Illyria
in this episode, allowing her to be scary when fighting Spike and
later Hyllus, and yet also very funny when trying to seduce both
Spike and Xander. It was funny to finally see Spike, sex-god that
he is to all you women fans, having to fend off Illyria's advances.
It reminded me of when Anya pretended to come on to him in Season
7 which was a funny scene, but then later sort of sad when she tried
to come on to him again for real later in the season, the night
they were just going out for a drink. And of course, Illyria's attempt
to seduce Xander was purposefully reminiscent of Anya first seducing
him in Season 3. Well done! And like other readers said in their
feedback, the flirting scene was hysterically funny! So please don't
kill Illyria -- there's so much more you can still do with her!
I'm counting on the fact that Cordy told Spike she'd be useful to
the team in the future, so I'm hopeful that you'll find a way to
save her. I'd like Illyria to stick with the team till the end of
the season. And maybe next season???
I've liked Mena since the beginning, and although there wasn't
much Haley in this episode, I do like the way you are slowly developing
her and letting both Spike's team and us readers get to know her
a little bit more with each episode. I don't always like the original
characters that fanfic writers sometimes add into the adventures
of Buffyverse characters, but I've got to hand it to you guys. In
addition to Mena and Haley, I like the little that we've seen of
Mike and would like to see more of him, and you've done a good job
with the villains and other short term characters you've introduced
to us readers. The best examples that come to mind are the most
recent - Hyllus was a great villain, and I enjoyed the whole adventure
with Spike's cousin and his wife. But even though it's been a while
since I read your earlier episodes, I still remember that one-scene
Spike-wannabe; the vampire that Spike & Dru turned at Woodstock;
the woman lawyer werewolf; the various Gilroy citizens and even
the two guys getting drunk in a bar who sudddenly became biker vampires
leading a horde to the Garlic Festival. So this is a sign of really
good writing -- even your minor new characters are memorable!
As I've told a few online friends who have also started reading
your series, Spike: Soul Survivor is the best virtual series or
long-running fanfic saga on the net! At least, of all the ones that
I've found. I've stopped reading most of the others, actually. But
yours is always well-written and entertaining and dare I say it
-- thought-provoking!
Okay, now I think I deserve to go read your new episode! [Producer's
Note: You certainly do deseve it, Tom. Thanks for this lovely feedback!]

I know I'm not a good
feedbacker because I hardly ever send any. Sorry about that. I've
still been enjoying your series tremendously! So I finally kicked
my butt in gear and wrote to you again. Like I said, I've enjoyed
all of the episodes since I last wrote, but I've got to at least briefly
mention the one in Nebraska for its Stephen King-like horror. That
was great! You sucked us in to liking Spike's cousin and his wife,
and then you turned them into scary monsters who Spike had to take
down. Very, very good!
Now about Split Decision: This is one of your best due
to your mastery of deftly mixing so much humor, all-out big-time
action, and character development all into one story. That is not
easily accomplished. Usually, any single episode leans toward just
one or two of those aspects, which when handled by your writers
is always well done, but this episode had it all. Amazing! I tip
my non-existent hat to you.
Your graphics always add so much to your episodes, too, so I congratulate
those folks as well as your writers. Since I'm handing out kudos,
I should also say that you have some of the best beta work I've
seen in the fan-fiction world. Your whole team should feel proud
of your work on this series.
Lastly, thanks for finally working Illyria into your series. And
you did it brilliantly, too. You do a great job with all of the
characters -- keeping the familiar ones true to themselves, even
as you allow them to grow and develop further than the TV shows
allowed, and writing your original characters with depth and care,
so that we care about them, too. Or fear them, like Hyllus.
So does this message make up for not sending feedback on a regular
basis? [Producer's Note: Yes, it does. Thank you very much. Of
course, we love our regular feedbackers even more. :-) ] I promise
that I'll try to do it more often, but I'm warning you...I'm lazy.

Hey, guys. I read all
your 11 chapters and the feedback you received. I like your spin-off
a lot and keep hoping for a Spike TV movie or series.
I'm glad your [version of] Buffy didn't sleep with the immortal
or love him. I really don't see Spuffy happening if she did. I like
the
relationship your Spike and Buffy have created; its foundation is
stronger and a lot more mature than what we received [on the TV
shows].
I like your Dana, Andrew, Connor (because you're writing him like
he was in season 5), and Anne. I dislike Xander (too many bad memories
from the TV show). [Producer's Note: We've tried very hard to redeem
Xander in the eyes of the Spike fans who ended up disliking him
on the TV show. We think we've developed him gradually into the
kind of man he could have been if the ME writers hadn't written
him the way they did in the last few seasons.] [As for] Mena, I
like her personality, [but] hate the actress [because] I relate
her too much to her character in her TV show (My Wife and Kids)
[where] she was just SOOO annoying. [Producer's Note:
We don't believe you can fault an actress for a role she played
that was written a certain way.] The Kendra actress had a lot
more potential.
Since when is Drusilla so strong? She never was a match for Spike;
she could only beat a Slayer with her dumbass thrall. [Producer's
Note: Dru was plenty strong on both BtVS and AtS except for when
she first showed up in Season 2, damaged until Spike cured her with
the ritual and Angel's blood. The thing about her is that Spike
finds the idea of ending her very difficult due to his past love
for her.] Loved the psycho-vampire played by Christian Bale.
Also, it should be stated that Illyria wasn't that much stronger
than Spike at the end. How do I come to this conclusion? Hamilton
beat
Illyria very easily & Angel beat Hamilton. [Producer's Note:
We disagree. We saw only the end result of the fight between Hamilton
and Illyria and do not believe it could possibly have been an easy
win for him. Later, Illyria killed an entire car full of demons
as she helped the gang when they split up to take out the Circle
of the Black Thorn. Hamilton was wiping the floor with Angel, even
after Connor joined in the fight. The only way Angel beat Hamilton
was after drinking some of his blood that had been empowered by
the always unseen W & H Senior Partners, who we believe are
probably Old Ones.]
Hand to hand, Spike is one of the very best. He can also take a
lot of damage. He's a streetfighter and brawler, yet he has studied
a lot of martial arts. [Producer's Note: We agree that Spike
is a fantastic fighter, but Illyria still has more power than he
does -- even at the diminished level after some of her power was
extracted. She can no longer go head-to-head with an Old One and
win, due to her diminished powers, but she is stronger than Spike
because she still has some of her Old One powers. He tried his best
to use his skills to beat her in our episode. We wanted it to be
a close match between them, but Illyria may very well have killed
him if Cordy hadn't popped in to disrupt their fight. We established
as canon for our series in this last episode that Illyria cannot
actually be killed, but only horrifically damaged into a state from
which she can never recover.]
Again, I didn't like the Xander and Illyria closeness, just because
he was so damm arrogant towards Anya and Spike. [Producer's Note:
We hope that you can begin to accept that Xander has learned from
his mistakes and suffered much at the loss of Anya -- at least in
our series. If you can't allow Xander the chance to grow and become
a better man, how were you able to accept it when Spike did? We
believe any character can be redeemed to some degree, depending
on how he/she is written.]
I don't like how Illyria thinks of both Xander and Spike [as]
her pets. Spike's better than that. [Producer's Note: Of course,
he is. Illyria needs to learn a lot, and we hope we've gotten her
off to a good start.]
Keep up the great work, guys. I'll keep reading. Await your reply.

This has been a very enjoyable read. I especially have enjoyed
this latest chapter "Split Decision". Fred/Illyria is
a hoot regarding Spike as her "pet". The dialogue is good,
and I like the pace. Looking forward to the next installment.
It was definitely the funniest Spike story I've read. Loved every
minute of it! These characters lend themselves so well to humor.
And this is about the only way I can get my Spike/Buffy/Xander/Illyria
fix these days... except for Netflix rentals! :)
Thanks so much for continuing the story!

Just wanted you all to
know how much I love your series. It is freaking fantastic! I really
admire your creativity, your imagination, and especially your skills.
You don't have any actual "clunkers" among your episodes
like the TV shows did, and they were professionals!
I'm a die-hard Spuffy fan, so I thought maybe I'd be disappointed
at how little involvement Buffy has had in this series, but you
always keep me entertained and waiting eagerly for the next one.
And I keep telling myself that Buffy is coming back into your series
soon because she'll be there for your big finale, right? [Producer's
Note: Right!] I sure hope you keep Spike and Buffy together.
You did such a terrific job in the episode in Ann Arbor when you
made them work out all of their issues. I'm anxious to see where
you'll take that relationship in the future. And there will be a
future, right? I sure hope you guys keep writing this! [Producer's
Note: We, too, hope to create a 2nd season, but it will depend on
whether or not we find enough new writers to keep us going. We also
need more graphic artists and betas. :-) Just saying.]
Loved the most recent episode, Split Decision, too. It was so
darn funny. Excellent from start to finish. This whole series is
amazing! It's my favorite of anything I've been reading all this
year, and among my favorite fanfics ever.

Just wanted to let you
know that I am enjoying the Soul Survivor series. I enjoy the blend
of new characters and new situations, along with the inclusion of
long-standing canon characters.
Once a month, I do a set of recs [recommendations] in my LJ [Live
Journal], and I've been including Soul Survivor's updates as part
of that for a while now.
Looking forward to more episodes. I can only imagine the amount
of work, logistics, and energy that this project uses. God bless
you all; you are doing the lord's work, as they say.
Once again, beaucoup de thanks for all the joy and fun you've given
me this last year. It's greatly appreciated.

Well done, Soul Survivor
team! Split Decision is the best episode so far! I especially liked
the interaction between Illyria and Spike. Very well done! The bathroom
scene was priceless. The graphics were great from the start but are
getting better and better still. Loved the one with Clem, Clara and
their puppy, although my favorite is still nekkid Spike in the shower.
;-) [Producer's Note: We took that image down in deference to James'
mentioning at various Cons how much the nudity in the show eventually
began to really bother him, and that it upsets him when fans focus
on that aspect of his appearance on the show. He'd much prefer that
fans focus on his acting, and we certainly understand and respect
his feelings on the matter.]
When Soul Survivor was announced on BAPS, I started to read the
episodes. So far, I've liked it very much. I think you are all doing
a great job: it is well presented and well written with great graphics.
So far, I like Split Decision best because it's a bit darker and
more gritty than the rest. There is still room for improvement though.
One of the things I didn't like much was the telephone conversation
between Spike and Connor. It didn't sound real to me; guys
don't talk like that with each other. It didn't come across as realistic,
IMO, especially because Connor was never that talkative to start
with. [Producer's Note: He was much more talkative and cheerful
in his two episodes in Season 5. We're continuing him in that vein.]
It was a bit too cutesy and explaney. I also felt that Spike's accent
was slipping a bit.
The telephone conversation between Spike and Colin (the little
boy), I found a bit off-putting. I understand that we all want Spike
to be appreciated and valued for who he is, but this was a bit overdone,
IMO, too gushing. Sorry!
[Producer's Note: Perhaps we went too far, but we believe that
if anyone is going to gush, it is a little boy who was saved from
death after seeing his parents killed. It seems likely that there
would be some hero-worshiping of Spike going on with him. But we
also understand that some people don't enjoy gushing of any kind.]
Overall, I feel that you have all the characters down pat; they
feel and sound true. I like Mena, and Haley is growing on me, so
you are also able to set up new characters and make them believable
(and likeable) which is no minor feat! The pacing of the stories
has been very good, too, and the humor is great. Split Decison has
a great cliffhanger ending, and I can't wait to find out what will
happen next.
From what I gathered so far, your aim has been to give closure
for a lot of the damage that ME have done and have neglected to
address, and that's something I appreciate as quite a few people
have been truly hurt by ME. The thing is that, although I appreciate
the sentiment, I sometimes feel that you guys went a bit overboard
and made Spike out to be something which he isn't: a sort of goody
twoshoes. I feel you're running the risk of turning him into a Mary
Sue, and I don't think that is what you really want to do. ME saw
fit to give him back his spark, so I would like to ask you to please
give him back (more of) his snark [Producer's Note: You are not
the only one who thinks we may be writing Spike too nice; however,
other readers comment on how much they're enjoying that Spike is
still snarky, but that he is also finally experiencing friendship
and playing nicely with others sometimes. We think the major point
is that now Spike is in almost every scene rather than being in
only a few scenes per episode, like he was on the TV shows. And
even on the shows he had some scenes where he didn't snark. If we
write him snarking all the time, it could get tiresome and be less
effective. He's the lead now and the hero. He gets along fairly
well with his team. He still snarks from time to time with them
-- especially with Xander -- but most of his snarking is being reserved
for his encounters with the bad guys. It's kind of challenging to
determine how much snark is enough; some of us will always prefer
more than others want to read. We'll just keep in mind that some
of you do want more and will do our best to create the "right"
amount of snark. We do understand what Elizabet is saying here and
take it to heart. However, an important thing to keep in mind is
that we are continuing Spike's development as a souled vampire.
We want him to grow beyond where he was on the TV shows and become
more comfortable in his role as a hero during our series, but we
promise we'll never let him lose his snark. His Spike-ness will
always be a part of him in this series. But he is not stagnant.
He will have ups and downs -- like he did in Memphis and Nebraska
-- but he will probably never screw up as badly as Angel sometimes
did, because he is a better man than Angel ever was. End of Producer's
Note.]
Spike, I love him to bits, but a saint he isn't. Sometimes he can
be annoying as hell and a bit crude and cruel, too. It's a thing.
;-) Some of the other characters tend to be a bit too sweet at times,
too, (IMO) by going a bit overboard in their praising of Spike.
Try not to make everybody too perfect because that is less interesting
to read. Having good people do bad or stupid things from time to
time makes the story more interesting and your characters more lifelike
and appealing. Annoy your readers a bit. Give them a shock to the
system every now and again with unexpected less nice character developments
for or actions by our heroes. That way the readers will appreciate
all the sweet things more.
Overall, I think that Soul Survivor is one of the very best stories
I've read in the Buffyverse. I love the story lines, love the characters
and the great sense of humor. You guys can be very wicked at times,
and I like that a lot.
I'd like to thank you all for all the time and effort you have
all put
in to create this lovely Spikeverse. Thanks a bunch!

That was great! I loved
Spike's snark, and I could really imagine "Miss Spike",
which was kind of frightening and a bit arousing. LOL Illyria having
her power back - not sure what to think on that one. The Powers know,
I'm sure, that she would probably do that eventually. At least she
did it to save Xander, so that's progress. I'm thinking she, herself,
might be able to be used for the Offering?
You guys have been doing really well with keeping the characters
correct, which makes these chapters such a joy to read.
I really believe in supporting good writers, or people that have
the potential to be, either way. I have a fic that I've been writing,
and I have around 4 loyal readers. Nobody reviews, but at least
they're showing up, so I can relate.
I could see this series as TV, and that's really cool. Thanks for
keeping the Spike Torch alive. With any luck, we'll see him on the
screen one more time.
Can't wait for the next ep.

Just finished Split Decision
- great chapter! You are all doing wonderful work with this series.
Haley is still a bit of an enigma; I can't say that I truly trust
her story about Ethan, but I'm sure time will tell. Spike being Spike
always likes to give the women the benefit of the doubt!! The whole
Illyria story was really well done, and her characterisation was spot-on
from my perspective. As usual Spike, Xander and Mena were well-written.
I'm not a great Xander fan in the main, but you've really developed
the good parts of his character in this series It makes sense that
he and Spike have worked their way into a tentative friendship.
I'm looking forward to the next episode, but I'm going back to
work now to try to get 'Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves' out of my
head!! [Producer's Note: Ha! We thought our next episode title
might shove unwanted memories of Cher's song into some of your heads.
:-) Good luck trying to forget it again.]

Wow, you guys, as always, did a hell of a job, both with story
and art. The story was so sad, but well written. You guys weave
your stories, like a spider weaving her web. Each thread of silk
is so connected!
With this story, I was surprised to meet Spike's cousin Nigel and
find out that Holly was his wife. But the big surprise for me was
when Holly truned into a Frivolix demon! Killing everything living
that she seeked out. So it was Spike's job to put her down. And
after he killed her, he had to kill his cousin, because he bonded
with Holly. And therefore, he turned into the same demon she was
- Frivolix. That was so sad.
And Xander, Mena, and Haley going off on a wild goose chase, looking
for the artifact. And in the end, Spike finds it - the wolf mask
which belonged to Holly and Nigel. And in the end, Xander finding
Spike because of Giles. That was a sweet meeting. I'm rambling again,
so I will shut up. I just want to thank you guys so much for this
novel, and I am looking forward to your next chapter, Split Decision!
By the way, when is that going to be? [Producer's Note: We're
not sure yet when the next episode will be ready. Since we've had
to delay other episodes recently from their expected posting dates,
we decided not to commit ourselves to a specific date yet. Sorry,
readers, it has just become too difficult for us to continue to
keep to a set timeline.]
Hugs & love all you guys,

**Warning** My
comments are full of spoilers. Can't help it!
Wow! You've done it! You've created the most vile, disgusting demon
ever, and you gave us a plot line that was not readily predictable!
Yay on you all.
When you watch a TV show and there are guest stars, it's a safe
bet they're gonna play the bad guy, but you made these guest stars
Spike's family (very cleverly done, I might add...my first reaction
was...whoa! how can Spike have living relatives that he grew up
with unless he turned them?...which of course is a possibility,
but unlikely.) And you made them Colin Firth (yummy) and Helen Bonham
Carter (who I love)...so they couldn't be the bad guys!
Wrong! And so icky! Acid that melts thru porcelain????? Ye gods!
I guess you've figured out that I'm really impressed with this
episode. I enjoyed the camaraderie between Spike and Nigel, and
the love story was lovely between Holly and Nigel. I understood
that they would have to *end* together, but I thought perhaps
there would be a suicide...I didn't figure Nigel would become one
of those god-awful things.
I know that sometimes you just need to let the art flow, but I
don't think you explained how Holly could be this creature born
in human form and exist for centuries before changing to true form...or
is it that it occurred only because they tried to cure the inconvenience
of the *normal* vomiting. [Producer's Note: We probably
could have explained this better after Holly had transformed, but
we definitely didn't want to give full details about the Frivolix
Demons too early in the story because we wanted the whole transformation
thing to be a shocking surprise. There was one line about how Frivolix
Demons have very long lifespans. So if you want more explanation,
you can extrapolate the following from that: they live very long
lives in their human forms. Then they don't last long after they
transform because they become constant feeders and murderers until
some other being has to kill them in order to safeguard everyone
else. And the animal population, too. Once transformed, the Frivolix
are just too deadly. They'd wipe out every living creature. The
pills Holly took extended her ability to remain in her human form,
but eventually, she would have transformed anyway. Tragic creatures!]
Also, as the only *living* relative, would the property
belong to Spike? Now I realize that that has some really odd issues,
but might have been an interesting avenue to pursue. Maybe a nice
place for William and Buffy to settle down when *the dust*
settles (*dust*...perish the thought!)
I still haven't made up my mind about Haley. The whole thing about
the adjoining rooms.....can't help but make me think she's got something
to hide....and she's still a Rayne. [Producer's Note: We like it
when our readers speculate about Haley. We are purposefully developing
her character very slowly so as not to reveal too much at once.
She could still be totally one of the "good guys", or
she could later be revealed as a villain, or be someone torn between
good and evil due to her connection to her Uncle Ethan, couldn't
she? You'll just have to wait and see.]
Your Xander, Spike and Giles characterizations continue to be true
to character, and I have no problem with Xander seemingly making
peace with Spike in his white hat. And your original characters
are interesting and well fleshed out for appearing in only one episode.
This one definitely hit a home run! Score!

As always, I really enjoyed
your latest chapter of Spike: Soul Survivor.
I started reading it yesterday and was upset that I had to stop, but
I just finished it now. It was great to have Xander, Mena and Haley
back in the story, and I enjoyed their adventures, but my heart was
totally with Spike. I could tell that things were going too well on
the farm, and you broke my heart with Spike having to step up as the
hero to save the lives of others by killing his own loved ones. That
was so tragic. I liked Nigel and Holly so much, and you cast wonderful
actors in their roles which made their demise even more tragic. Sob.
And, of course, your graphics were fabulous again. They always
enhance the story so well. You have a terrific group of talented
people working on this series.
Overall, this was another fantastic chapter in your ongoing great
piece of work for us Whedonverse fans. Please keep writing, and
I'll definitely keep reading!
Your grateful fan, Sue

I wasn't sure if I would read the series, because I wanted to let
my mind develop where Spike would end up and what he would do. But,
then I thought long and hard about it and found out Tallgent from
CDS was going to be one of the writers for the Meanness of the World,
and since I like to read most of what he writes anyway, I decided
to take a chance and read it from the beginning.
It really wasn't what I thought it was going to be, but that's okay.
I don't need it to be something perfect; hell nothing ever is. But
what I found about the series that I like so far, is that nothing
is what it seems, and the good guys don't always have the best days.
Just like on the shows. That made it worth it for me to spend an
entire day of my vacation reading this and taking the time to learn
a new and bright world with Spike in it.
And for that, I thank you.

God, that was a really
dark and creepy episode!
You took a throwaway line from Goodbye Iowa and constructed
a very interesting walk down a memory lane around it. The flashbacks
describing William and Nigel's friendship are beautiful, but you can't
help but feel nasty foreboding in them. The family scenes at the farm
are deceptively peaceful, and when the terrible events start happening,
they're completely justified - yet shocking in their brutality and
gore. Even the funniest parts sparkle with gallows humour.
"But I also know you're still the oldest living member
of the Sid Vicious Fan Club."
"Hey!" Spike exclaimed. "I founded that club!"
"No, you ate the founder," Nigel reminded him,"
There's a big difference".
But I think that Soul Survivor needs an episode like this - to
test the genre limits, show limits and character limits. And the
sheer talent of the writers proves that the possibilities of both
the show and the character of Spike are boundless. He can be funny
and fluffy; yet he is a tragic hero who has to make tough choices
and terrible sacrifices.
I think this episode will haunt me for a long time.

Just wanted to let you
know that I finally had time to sit down and read all the stories.
What an amazing collection of talented writers! Thank you for continuing
to tell the story of Spike. Selfishly, I'm also glad that Spike's
story also includes Buffy. The way you've woven the two worlds of
Buffy and Angel together is very creative. It works very well to have
the characters that were killed off acting as spiritual guides. I
hope Cordy and Wesley have a chance to share their insights. Wesley,
as a researcher, could be a very valuable asset as they search out
the mystical artifacts. I'm looking forward to another installment.
Thanks for writing! |

That's beautiful! I am a full-fledged Spander-lover... friendship

All in all, it was a fun read. I can't wait to read what Spike would

I loved this episode.
I loved how you went into the psyche of every character and how you
captured every character perfectly. It's great to see that you didn't
deter in describing the surroundings and their history but explained
what was important to the plot. Great job. It was helpful and to the
point. You showed us what each character is feeling as if we are them.
It was painful but needed to be done. Through this, I actually wanted
Spike to recognize Andrew's love! Poor Andrew. *giggle* I mean, Buffy
had people to love her. She could find someone other than Spike easily,
but Andrew just had an eye-opening revelation and broke his heart
at the same time!
It would be really interesting to see what Spike would think if
(hopefully when) he finds out about Andrew's feelings.
I really loved this, and I see a new episode is out. I hope it
will be as great as this, so I'm off to read that!

I have just recently
discovered "Soul Survivor", and I want to let you know that
this is by far the best of the Buffyverse virtual series out there.
The storytelling, characterization and images make me feel like I'm
watching a continuation of Joss's universe as much as reading a story.
I am disappointed that we didn't get a 6th season of Angel, a Buffy
movie, or a Spike show, but your series fills that gap for me. For
that, I am very grateful.
The main reason I am contacting you is to respond to criticism
from a previous reviewer and let you know that what you did in "The
Big Ten" was necessary for some of us. I am someone who once
loved the Spuffy relationship, but was turned completely against
it by the end of the 6th season of Buffy. While Spike's guilt and
regret were fully on display in Season 7, Buffy made sure no one,
save a vampire psychology student she conveniently staked, ever
found out about her own abusiveness in their mixed up relationship.
Spike was willing to shoulder all the blame, and Buffy was more
than happy to let him. This made it impossible for me to like her
character or believe in them again. In fact, I thought there was
no way I possibly could, until I read your episode. Even up until
he read the letter, I was still rooting for Spike to turn her down,
but after reading it, I was able to forgive her and believe for
the first time that her declaration of love had been real. In the
Hellmouth and on Angel, Spike made the point that he did not believe
Buffy had been sincere in saying she loved him. I think it would
be very difficult for her to make him believe it, and the way you
handled it was much more credible than those fics in which she says
"I really meant it, you dope!", and he says "What
a bloody fool I've been. Kiss me, Slayer!", and they fall into
each other's arms. Thanks for putting in the work to make it believable.
[Producer's Note: And we thank you for completely understanding
our intentions and for appreciating our efforts. We definitely found
salvaging their relationship a very challenging feat to accomplish.
Glad that we succeeded in doing so for you and for many other readers.
We'll keep trying to do the best we can.]
Your show is a great concept. I always thought Spike was a great
supporting character, but I had my doubts that he would work as
the lead. I can't see him with his own Scooby Gang. But having him
travel to different locales and meet different people has really
worked out and kept it fresh. There are a couple of meetings I'm
really looking forward to. The rest of the old Sunnydale gang showed
up, but the grieving Willow was absent. I hope this means she is
being held back for a future Spike & Willow episode. They never
got enough moments together. And I noticed that Illyria wasn't among
the pronounced dead in L.A. I really liked her, and I think that
of all the characters on either show, her journey had the most unfulfilled
potential. I'd love to see her again. Also, let me put in a request
for more Spike/Dawn friendship moments. I really miss those.
[Producer's Note: You'll have to wait a while longer for Willow
to appear, but Illyria will be showing up very soon. We'll see what
we can do about some more Spike/Dawn moments; we like them, too.]
So anyway, thanks again for all the enjoyment you've given me.
It's greatly appreciated, and I've recently turned several friends
on to your site. A couple of them live near Gilroy, and were really
interested to hear that it was used in a story.

Hi ladies, it's me!
"Sorry for the delay. I've been on jury duty and am just getting
to your wonderful works. Once again you have not disappointed me.
You surprised me but, as always, in a good way. Spike reacting to
Dana, now that was a piece of work as well as Spike getting Dana
out of the prison where they locked her up and drugged her; her
dreams of her hero with blond hair coming to free her, and Andrew
telling her she is a slayer, a slayer of many.
She overhears Giles and Buffy speak about the lost artifacts, Magical
artifacts. She begs them to let her go and look for the magic. She
steals papers and a passport to go to Memphis. Then she's caught.
Andrew begs for Spike's help. Which he does and then they go hunting
for the artifacts. And because of the drugs in Dana's system, Spike
is sexually drawn to her. At the end Niki comes back from the dead
and gives Spike the coat, the coat that was hers. Now that was a
big surprise! The rest I don't have to keep rambling about. To say
the least, I loved this story. Once again all of you guys did a
hell of a job, Right from the writers, to those that do the art!

Just finished reading

with Xander though. They make a really good team. Looking forward
to see if Spike and Buffy will finally get together like they belong. |

I'll be blunt. I've been
reading this series from the start. There are a few things I didn't
like, but overall, this is amazing. You cover ground, lead up to great
things and it seems like a real show. Your writing skills are top
notch and creativity is great. The dynamics of each relationship are
good, my favorite being Spike-Xander, my least favorite being the
Spike-Buffy one. But, I see that going great places, so I'm happy.
Keep up the great work. I love your stuff. |

Dear Writers
What a wonderful whirl of a story. Thank you one and all. I can
find no sour notes only lovely, melodies. The graphics are equally
as interesting. Once again, thank you for taking your time to not
only write such entertaining fare, but send it to each of us. Fondly,

Man, that was really a close call for Spike and his demon. I thought
for sure he was going to give in. I think he might have if not for
Andrew.
I'm sorry I haven't r/r for the rest of the fic. I have to go back
and re-read some. The Big Ten I liked, b/c see I'm a Spuffy
and I know most might not be, so I really liked that chapter. So
reading this one kinda scared me into thinking that Spike would
find another. But, I am so loving this what, epic...saga...tale,
whatever, it's really good. thanx to all you writers for each chapter.
Until the next one, Ta luv's.

Thank you for the new installment in Spike: Soul Survivor, You
Can't Always Get What You Want. I think it's an interesting
exploration of Spike's fascination with Slayer mythology. It's a
great idea to interweave his uneasy relationship with Dana the Slayer,
his doubts about his soul and demon essence, and his mystical meeting
with Nikki Wood along with our heroes' quest for an artefact which
may be - or not be - in Memphis.
The episode is very introspective - i.e. what characters think
is more important than what they do - but the action scenes are
very "visual" and expressive. Great illustrations -- inventive
to incorporate the famous James Marsters "bike" photoshoot
into the mix of actors' images from the show. Great job on the part
of all of the team.

I really loved this episode,
I'm a sucker for this particular trio. And Spike battling his demon,
very beleivable. And I just loved the denoument that Spike's coat
is the artefact, and he hasn't a clue. I hope this will come round
in a later story.
In this episode, the plot and characterisations were just right -
I confess that I've found some of the earlier episodes a touch heavy
going, far too much detail and not enough action (I particularly think
of the good vampire town episode) but this episode I could see fitting
into a 42 minute teleplay.
And I think you managed some terrific character development for all
three of them. Quite an achievement |

I enjoyed the visit to
the King Elvis..then the pyramid.
I felt sure, since so many writers give spike's coat infinite pockets
and he seemed to carry a lot in his pockets on the show, that there
was going to be a forgotten object of unknown value in his pockets.
Then you surprise me with the coat itself. I look forward to more.
Thanks to the writer of the chapter and to the artists of the wonderful
pictures.

Great job. Got me worried
with Spike's demon getting a little crazy. Thank goodness it was the
drugs.
You all have such great ideas. Sorry I didn't give you feedback right
away as usual but I was out of town!
Looking forward to the next chapter. Take care and keep up the good
work. |

Thanks for the heads up that the story was now on line. It was
just as great as the other chapters....great reading...fun. I will
be looking forward to the next installment.
Loved the way you brought Dana back into the plot - the pairing
of
her and Spike, and the conflict between hate, lust, and love. The
chapter was a great read.
Keep up the great work!!! I love a good read..and your site is
still the best
Love you guys.

Boy, that was a long time
coming, but worth the wait. Nice to see what happened to Dana. Gotta
like a psycho slayer. Nice seeing some development happening with
Andrew as well. Can't wait to see what happens next. |

I started to worry a
bit about Spike there, but I was pretty sure he would win out over
his demon. He should figure out that it was the drugs, eventually.
He's smart enough.
Yay, for Andrew, that he figured out a mission on his own. Now he
needs to put in a phone call about Spike's coat. Things are always
in plain sight...
Healing for Dana - very good. Always felt sorry for the poor thing,
even after she cut off Spike's hands (which really upset me. He has
nice hands!).
I remember the mention of Spike's cousin, from another fic, but I
don't know what episode it was from. Gotta get those dvds so I can
see things more than once.
I was so glad to see that the update was here today. I really missed
reading this story. Keep up the good work, guys! |

What an excellent journey.
The coat always held magic for Spike. Loved the accompanying picture
great job on those. Andrew and Dana certainly were a surprise. Very
enjoyable. Thank You ,Da |

This was a cool episode. Of course, when you start with a title
and
theme giving homage to a cool Stones' song and then later invoke
Elvis - that's a good sign. Sure didn't expect to see Dana involved
in your series. That was a big surprise! The writers did a great
job of getting into her head and understanding her. I liked how
all three characters had to do a little introspection and figure
some things aout about themselves. Of course, I always knew Andrew
was gay and had a thing for Spike. LOL And although at first I kept
wondering about the rest of Spike's team, after a while I was so
into this episode's storyline that I didn't really miss them. That
may be because I know I'll see them again in the next episode, right?
[Producer's Note: Right. Xander, Mena and Haley will be involved
in the Nebraska episode.]
I liked all the action in this one -- lots of weird stuff going
on, car chases, cops, fights, etc. And as I've come to expect from
your series, some really stellar graphic images. Glad you're back
online again. Keep up the great work!

I'd like to say 'great
work'! I've really enjoyed the series so far, especially 'The Big
Ten' 'cos I'm still a Spuffy girl at heart! That said, I like the
fact that the whole series isn't just a 'Buffy & Spike get back
together and live happily ever after'-type. You seem to have taken
a great amount of care to get the characterisations right and your
OCs have been given as much depth as the more established characters.
I was checking up daily for the new episode and I wasn't disappointed.
I left Kathy a short note on the CDS Forum to say that I loved this
last installment, especially Nikki gifting Spike with the duster.
I'm looking forward to the next episode, hopefully if you post
at the end of June I can get to read it before I go on holiday and
lose internet access for 3 weeks!!
